Howard Hughes & Paula Deen
My first effort into emotive electronics. This work consists of two columns made up of red LEDs, shift register microchips, hook-up wire and carbon fiber. Both constructions elongate, retract, and blink independently in response to the audience or viewers proximity to the pedestal.
If multiple viewers approach this work, and stay within close proximity, the structures inside the clear enclosure begin to elongate and retract more erratically. The intensity of their movement and light emission will intensify until they reach a state of panic. This variation in reaction to the proximity of the people around it emulates the human condition of agoraphobia. A condition shared by many, including Howard Hughes and Paula Deen, which can create an uncontrollable panic for those who suffer from this condition.
Medium: LEDs, NXP CSRCs, Wire, Arduino, Range Sensors, and Servos. This work made it into the Fort Wayne Reader in the Best singular art pieces.
